Audiobook Monday | June.19.2017

Monday is the day I get my life together … cleaning the house, grocery shopping, you know … all the boring adulting type things. So needless to say … I don’t get a lot of reading time in. Luckily I have a bit of an obsession with audiobooks which happen to be the perfect way to read and adult at the same time! So I have decided to start posting about my audio-reads on Mondays when I can.

So, what am I listening to this Monday?

The Distance Between Us by Kasie WestThe Distance Between Us by Kasie West

Narrated by: Jorjeana Marie

Release date: October 2, 2014

  • Duration: 06:42:15

(Goodreads Synopsis possible series spoilers):

Seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers studies the rich like her own personal science experiment, and after years of observation she’s pretty sure they’re only good for one thing—spending money on useless stuff, like the porcelain dolls in her mother’s shop.

So when Xander Spence walks into the store to pick up a doll for his grandmother, it only takes one glance for Caymen to figure out he’s oozing rich. Despite his charming ways and that he’s one of the first people who actually gets her, she’s smart enough to know his interest won’t last. Because if there’s one thing she’s learned from her mother’s warnings, it’s that the rich have a short attention span. But Xander keeps coming around, despite her best efforts to scare him off. And much to her dismay, she’s beginning to enjoy his company.

She knows her mom can’t find out—she wouldn’t approve. She’d much rather Caymen hang out with the local rocker who hasn’t been raised by money. But just when Xander’s attention and loyalty are about to convince Caymen that being rich isn’t a character flaw, she finds out that money is a much bigger part of their relationship than she’d ever realized. And that Xander’s not the only one she should’ve been worried about.

Thoughts

Well … I don’t hate it … so there’s that. I did think about DNFing it a time or two though.

Honestly I just can’t stand how many times the MC says the word “rich”  … which is to say “aweful”. It is obvious that there is a prejudice thing going on here and it is driving me a bit insane. I think the concept is fine … for me it is literally coming down to the quantity of times the whole rich thing is brought up. It is basically every other sentence. It’s too much. Tone it down ok. Thanks.

If that was toned down, I think I would enjoy this book a lot more. It is cute and I like this Kasie West book a lot better than By Your Side.

What are you reading today? I would love to hear your thoughts. Comment below!

Why do authors take a nice concept and go overboard with it? It just makes no sense! There has to be a balance for everything and writing is no exception… If you hammer a word/sentence down over and over again, it’s bound to become annoying to your readers, no matter how harmless it is.
I really need to find a Kasie West book to try soon but I don’t think this is the one ^^’

I have never listened to audio book before! I usually just listen to music while I clean and do other adult-y things, but I should definitely try an audio book instead sometime! Anything to help lessen my over-flowing TBR shelf haha!

And, I hate it when authors use one word over and over again! Like how did no one tell them, “hey, maybe use that word a little less because its annoying”!?!? I just read Princess of Thorns by Stacy Jay, and I nearly pulled my hair out because she said the word “flaming” on literally every page! It was the WORST!

ACOTAR – it was the clicking of the tongues
      ACOWAR – Mate

These examples come to mind omg! Ugh.

I hate when something like that takes away from my experience of the story 😦

You should try audiobooks though. I have been able to get through so much of my tbr this way and it also makes the chores more enjoyable 🙂

Oh my gosh! SJMaas is super repetitive with certain words and phrases! I totally noticed those phrases you mentioned in ACOTAR AND ACOWAR too!

And, I will definitely listen to an audiobook the next time I do chores! Now, it’s just a matter of choosing which book from my TBR lol! There are so many!

I’m not sure what your TBR looks like … but the following are some of the best AB I have listened to:
—Red Rising series by Pierce Brown (I love these books but the audio takes it to a whole other level it’s so good!)
—Lunar Chronicles (again, I love the books but this audio just adds SO MUCH to the experience!)
—Daughter of Smoke and Bone series the audio was really great!
—Starflight by Melissa Landers was a really good AB
        — Lockwood & Co. The books and audio are great
        >>>>>>
Stay away from Six of Crows audio … the audio on that is one of the worst I have heard. Luckily I read the physical copy before giving the AB a try or I think I would have enjoyed the books a lot less.

        Hope that helps 🙂
