Top 10 Series I’ve Been Meaning To Start But Haven’t

My TBR is a mess … like it is literally trying to kill me! So many books to read so little time and books I intend to read get swallowed up in the mess! I have approximately 1229057 book series I intend to read eventually …. so …. I’m just going to choose a few of the ones that have been bouncing around closer to the top of my tbr lately … and totally at random.

Here are some of the series that I have been meaning to start but have been lost to the ever growing TBR for far too long…

Poison Study by Maria V SnyderStudy series by Maria V Snyder

I have been meaning to start this series for so so so long, but every time my library hold has been available, I was not in a position to read it. Luckily my bookish bestie just loaned me her copy and I am excited to jump into this one finally!

Books in series: technically 3 but there is a second series tie in with an additional 3 books. There are also 3 novellas for the series.

Poison Study (Goodreads synopsis):

Choose: A quick death…Or slow poison…

About to be executed for murder, Yelena is offered an extraordinary reprieve. She’ll eat the best meals, have rooms in the palace—and risk assassination by anyone trying to kill the Commander of Ixia.

And so Yelena chooses to become a food taster. But the chief of security, leaving nothing to chance, deliberately feeds her Butterfly’s Dust—and only by appearing for her daily antidote will she delay an agonizing death from the poison.

As Yelena tries to escape her new dilemma, disasters keep mounting. Rebels plot to seize Ixia and Yelena develops magical powers she can’t control. Her life is threatened again and choices must be made. But this time the outcomes aren’t so clear…”

The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick NessChaos Walking series by Patrick Ness

Another one of the series that has been bouncing around the top of my TBR for a while now. I have actually had the first book checked out from the library twice now and still I have not started it. Soon though … SOON!

Books in series: 3 with 3 additional novellas

The Knife of Never Letting Go (Goodreads synopsis):

They find that in a town where privacy is impossible, something terrible has been hidden — a secret so awful that Todd and Manchee must run for their lives.

But how do you escape when your pursuers can hear your every thought?”

The Winners Curse by Marie RutkoskiThe Winner’s Trilogy by Marie Rutkoski

This series opener, I have also had checked out from the library and still not started. I have not been as excited about this one as the other series on this list though. But I will get to it eventually.

Books in series: 3

The Winner’s Curse (Goodreads synopsis):

Winning what you want may cost you everything you love…

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

The Falconer Elizabeth MayThe Falconer series by Elizabeth May

I have this book and book two in the series sitting on my Kindle just waiting to be read right now. I have heard some really great things from people whose opinions on book usually match my own.

Books in series: 3

The Falconer (Goodreads synopsis):

She’s a stunner.
Edinburgh, 1844. Eighteen-year-old Lady Aileana Kameron, the only daughter of the Marquess of Douglas, has everything a girl could dream of: brains, charm, wealth, a title—and drop-dead beauty.

She’s a liar.
But Aileana only looks the part of an aristocratic young lady. she’s leading a double life: She has a rare ability to sense the sìthíchean—the faery race obsessed with slaughtering humans—and, with the aid of a mysterious mentor, has spent the year since her mother died learning how to kill them.

She’s a murderer.
Now Aileana is dedicated to slaying the fae before they take innocent lives. With her knack for inventing ingenious tools and weapons—from flying machines to detonators to lightning pistols—ruthless Aileana has one goal: Destroy the faery who destroyed her mother.

The first volume of a trilogy from an exciting new voice in young adult fantasy, this electrifying thriller combines romance and action, steampunk technology and Scottish lore in a deliciously addictive read.”

Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn HamiltonRebel of the Sands series by Alwyn Hamilton

The curse of the poorly timed library loan got to me on this one too! BUT I REALLY WANT TO READ IT!
Books in series: 3 (book 3 still awaiting publication)
Rebel of the Sands (Goodreads synopsis):

She’s more gunpowder than girl—and the fate of the desert lies in her hands.

Mortals rule the desert nation of Miraji, but mystical beasts still roam the wild and barren wastes, and rumor has it that somewhere, djinni still practice their magic. But there’s nothing mystical or magical about Dustwalk, the dead-end town that Amani can’t wait to escape from.

Destined to wind up “wed or dead,” Amani’s counting on her sharpshooting skills to get her out of Dustwalk. When she meets Jin, a mysterious and devastatingly handsome foreigner, in a shooting contest, she figures he’s the perfect escape route. But in all her years spent dreaming of leaving home, she never imagined she’d gallop away on a mythical horse, fleeing the murderous Sultan’s army, with a fugitive who’s wanted for treason. And she’d never have predicted she’d fall in love with him… or that he’d help her unlock the powerful truth of who she really is.”

Nevernight by Jay KristoffThe Nevernight Chronicle by Jay Kristoff

This is probably my most recent series on my list, but I swear every time I see this book I pick it up and say “I really need to read this”. Book two is set to release this September so I will most likely take the time to read this ones I have access to books one and two.

Outlander by Diana GabaldonOutlander series by Diana Gabaldon

I feel like everyone has read this series or at least started to at some point … so count this one as another series I am way behind the curve on.

Books in series: 8 currently but book 9 has a title and no release date? There are also 3 novellas and a possible 4th in the works?

Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life, and shatter her heart. For here James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire—and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.”

This is one of those series I keep forgetting about … but it also sounds really great!

Books in series: 3 and 4 novellas

The Darkest Minds (Goodreads synopsis):

Something that got her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that had killed most of America’s children, but she and the others emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they could not control.

Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones. When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. She is on the run, desperate to find the only safe haven left for kids like her—East River. She joins a group of kids who have escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can’t risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents. When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at having a life worth living.”

Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone by J K RowlingHarry Potter series by J. K. Rowling

DON’T JUDGE ME OK! I haven’t watched the movies either .. yeah you heard me. I plan to be the last human on the face of the earth who hasn’t read this series … so far it’s going well 😛

Books in series: 8 and a prequel novella

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Goodreads synopsis):

Harry Potter’s life is miserable. His parents are dead and he’s stuck with his heartless relatives, who force him to live in a tiny closet under the stairs. But his fortune changes when he receives a letter that tells him the truth about himself: he’s a wizard. A mysterious visitor rescues him from his relatives and takes him to his new home, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

After a lifetime of bottling up his magical powers, Harry finally feels like a normal kid. But even within the Wizarding community, he is special. He is the boy who lived: the only person to have ever survived a killing curse inflicted by the evil Lord Voldemort, who launched a brutal takeover of the Wizarding world, only to vanish after failing to kill Harry.

Though Harry’s first year at Hogwarts is the best of his life, not everything is perfect. There is a dangerous secret object hidden within the castle walls, and Harry believes it’s his responsibility to prevent it from falling into evil hands. But doing so will bring him into contact with forces more terrifying than he ever could have imagined.

Full of sympathetic characters, wildly imaginative situations, and countless exciting details, the first installment in the series assembles an unforgettable magical world and sets the stage for many high-stakes adventures to come.”
