This week’s prompt is…

Top 5 Hate-to-Love romances

Ok seriously, this week’s prompt was “hate to love ships” … that was the wording … no explanation at all. So, my brain automatically went into a tailspin of “what does this mean” and “but there are multiple interpretations” and so I decided to interpret two ways with two separate Top 5 Wednesday posts this week. See my other post for this week HERE.

For this post,  I listed my top 5 favorite romances that started out as hate and grew into love (which by the way is one of my favorite tropes of all time!)

In my other post, I listed my favorite ships that either make me feel guilty for shipping them because they are oh-so-wrong or almost no one else ships them but me. My guilty pleasure ships if you will. You can find that post HERE.

Hate-to-Love just has that special tension and emotion that I cannot get enough of! And usually it lends itself well to broken characters, characters with a shady backstory, or epic misunderstandings. All of these make me FEEL FEELINGS and I love it so much! I honestly have about a million examples of this but I have narrowed it down to a 5.

These will be listed in random order

*POSSIBLE MILD SPOILERS BELOW*

Six of Crows by Leigh BardugoNina and Matthais from Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo

No Hate-to-Love romance list is complete without Nina and Matthias somewhere around the very top of said list … so I shall have it here where it belongs … on the top.

OMG THIS SHIP IS EVERYTHING I CAN’T EVEN SOMETIMES!

Literally every time I drink a glass of ice water I think the words “The water hears and understands. The ice does not forgive”. Does this make me weird? I don’t know or care. I know it makes me TRASH FOR THESE BOOKS THOUGH … and that claim I am willing to accept with pride!

Seriously though, the development and the angst and the tension with these two is enough to crush anyone’s heart into a million pieces SO GOOD! It is so pure and so ruthless and so broken and so beautiful. This hate-to-love is truly one of the best this bookish world has to offer ❤ ❤ ❤

starflight by Melissa LandersSolara and Doran from Starflight duology by Melissa Landers

This hate-to-love romance is one of the most fun romances I have read recently! Solara and Doran definitely start out in a weird predicament that escalates and escalates into a wild adventure filled with adorable moments and hilarious moments and heartfelt moments too!

Meant to Be by Lauren MorrillJason and Julia from Meant To Be by Lauren Morrill

This is the one-sided hate-to-love but none the less exciting for it!

When these two are paired together for a school trip to London, they have to put aside their differences and become at least friendly.

Jason pushes Julia outside of her comfort zone, leading her through some fun adventures she never would have experienced on her own.

Adorable is the word that comes to mind with this book and this romance.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen 2Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

The quintessential classic Hate-to-love trope we all LOVE!

I mean there is really not much I can say here that hasn’t already been said through the decades. This romance is on of the staple romances of it’s time and ever since.

For me … this is the relationship that defines the hate-to-love trope and so beautifully too ❤

sea of shadows by Kelley ArmstrongMoria and Gavril from Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong

I SHIPPED IT SOOOO HARD OMG! I absolutely loved these two together. Their banter and angst was so beautifully tense that it made me laugh out loud and root for these two soo hard!

Now, I’m not exactly in love with where this series eventually went, but this first book in the series was a beautiful relationship build starting with bridging the gap to friendship. I loved it!

I am in the minority here. I couldn’t stand Nina and Mathias in Six of Crows. I dunno why. I just didn’t like them together.

    Good post though!

My favorite ship was Khalid and Shahrzad from The Wrath and The Dawn. Also, I think I’m the last person in the world who has NOT READ Six of Crows and wants to!! 😩
