I STAYED UP LITERALLY ALLL FRICKING NIGHT!!! Like I have not gone to sleep … and it is 8:30am now … so … I will not be sleeping … again … and IT WAS WORTH IT ❤

I see spots and I don’t think they are real?! My eyes are rebelling.

BUT why do I have to wait for things?! I need book 2 now though … the universe owes me AT LEAST THIS!!!!!

PREPARE THYSELF … because this review is going to be a lot of random fangirling, poorly flowing points and epic gushing because I really adored this book!!!

Also I am running on a crazy lack of sleep right now … so the writing on this review is going to be awful … oops

The Story

(Goodreads synopsis):

“Aurora Pavan comes from one of the oldest Stormling families in existence. Long ago, the ungifted pledged fealty and service to her family in exchange for safe haven, and a kingdom was carved out from the wildlands and sustained by magic capable of repelling the world’s deadliest foes. As the sole heir of Pavan, Aurora’s been groomed to be the perfect queen. She’s intelligent and brave and honorable. But she’s yet to show any trace of the magic she’ll need to protect her people.

To keep her secret and save her crown, Aurora’s mother arranges for her to marry a dark and brooding Stormling prince from another kingdom. At first, the prince seems like the perfect solution to all her problems. He’ll guarantee her spot as the next queen and be the champion her people need to remain safe. But the more secrets Aurora uncovers about him, the more a future with him frightens her. When she dons a disguise and sneaks out of the palace one night to spy on him, she stumbles upon a black market dealing in the very thing she lacks—storm magic. And the people selling it? They’re not Stormlings. They’re storm hunters.

Legend says that her ancestors first gained their magic by facing a storm and stealing part of its essence. And when a handsome young storm hunter reveals he was born without magic, but possesses it now, Aurora realizes there’s a third option for her future besides ruin or marriage.

She might not have magic now, but she can steal it if she’s brave enough.

Challenge a tempest. Survive it. And you become its master.”

Book Review | Gemina

████ it … ALL THE STARS
All the ████ing stars in the ████ing ‘verse!

Seriously, this series is a masterpiece of multimedia storytelling and
I LOVED IT!!! ⇐ Understatement of the millennia right there Chum

The Story

This story takes place on the jump station Heimdall directly following the events of Illuminae. Like with Illuminae, the story is told though a series of messages, files, notes, schematics, coding and video footage (shout out to the return of Surveillance Guy)

We have a new cast of characters
Nik Malikov (aka my new husband), Jackson Merrick, and Hanna ████ing Donnelly
as well as some old favorites.

Honestly, I suggest going into Gemina with as little preconceived notions as possible for best results. So, I will refrain from going into too many details on the story.
Just read it!

(Goodreads synopsis possible series spoilers):

“Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.

The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminae continues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault.

Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.

When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.

But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.

Once again told through a compelling dossier of emails, IMs, classified files, transcripts, and schematics, Gemina raises the stakes of the Illuminae Files, hurling readers into an enthralling new story that will leave them breathless.”

The Story

(Goodreads synopsis):

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do. This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.

BRIEFING NOTE: Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

The Story

(Goodreads synopsis possible series spoilers):

“ ‘A line that should never be crossed is about to be breached. It puts this entire castle in jeopardy—and the life of your friend.’

“From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena’s world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie… and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.”

Book Review | Their Fractured Light

Their Fractured Light by Amie Kaufman and Meagan SpoonerTheir Fractured Light (Starbound #3) by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

5/5 stars
Second read

I LOVE this book

Seriously Gideon and Sofia are absolutely adorable!

This is my favorite book of Kaufman and Spooner’s Starbound series and here is why…

The Story

The third and final installment of this series takes place one year after the conclusion of This Shattered World. Like with book two, this story follows a whole new cast of characters living in the same universe (hint these characters have appeared before *wink*) but this story will eventually bring us headfirst into a reunion of all the characters we love from this series.

This story follows Sofia and Gideon who will be thrown together in this epic and action packed conclusion to this amazing series. But who can they trust? Can they even trust each other?
