Most Anticipated Book Releases of May 2017

The month of May is filled with so many of my most anticipated book releases of 2017! Unfortunately there are only so many hours in a day, so I will not be able to get to all of these this month … but feast your eyes on that delicious May release goodness!

A Court of Wings and Ruin (A Court of Thorns and Roses #3) by Sarah J. Maas – May 2, 2017

This may be the most anticipated release of 2017 for most readers out there. After A Court Of Mist and Fury left all but a few completely and speechlessly entranced one year ago, Maas has some pretty big expectations to meet in this series conclusion.

Always and Forever, Laura Jean (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before #3) by Jenny Han – May 2, 2017

I have read and adore the first two books in this series, so of course I’m expecting some cutsie contemporary goodness with this series conclusion!

The Black Witch (The Black Witch Chronicles #1) by Laurie Forest- May 2, 2017

This book has fallen prey to some pretty nasty accusations recently. A few ARC reviewers and bloggers have written extensive posts about this book calling it “racist” and “problematic”, leading many to boycott this book altogether. Since this recent frenzy, the book has been released and many other trusted reviewers have debated these prior claims. Is this a racist book? Or is this a book about racism? I plan to read and review it for myself.

Avenged (Ruined #2) by Amy Tintera – May 2, 2017

Last year I read and enjoyed Ruined, the first book in this series. So I am excited to read this next installment when I have time.

The Traitor’s Kiss (Traitor’s Trilogy #1) by Erin Beaty – May 9, 2017

Here is another book that has recently fallen prey to pre-release claims and criticism for being “a white-washed retelling of Mulan”. The publishers originally marketed this book as a Mulan retelling but have since changed their strategy. To be honest, this book only slightly resembles anything Mulan related, so it might have just been a really bad call on the part of the publishing company. Regardless, I am extremely excited to get my hands on this book. I am a total “cover whore” and this book has one of the prettiest covers I have seen!

The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich – May 16, 2017

Ok, so I’m basing this hype on pure brilliance of that amazing premise! Seriously though … this idea gives me life!

Flame in the Mist (Flame in the Mist #1) by Renee Ahdieh – May 16, 2017

Another book marketed as a Mulan retelling, but I believe this one hits much closer to the Mulan mark. I have been pretty excited about this release for a while. And would you just look at that cover?! Absolutely gorgeous! I will definitely be picking this one up sometime soon.

Lord of Shadows (The Dark Artifices #2) by Cassandra Clare – May 23, 2017

Well here it is guys! My most anticipated book release of 2017. Because I am unapologetic shadowhunter trash! Lady Midnight was actually my first leap into the amazingly intricate and immersive world that Clare has created. After reading LM, I immediately devoured every one of the previous shadowhunter books back to back in a massive month-long binge. AND I LOVE IT ALL SOOO MUCH! Seriously though, this particular series in the shadowhunter world has, so far, been my personal favorite. I need more MARK BLACKTHORN, JULIAN BLACKTHORN, and EMMA CARSTAIRS! And I need it NOW! Take my money Clare … for as long as you want to write new shadowhunter books.

When Dimple Met Rishi – Sandhya Menon – May 30, 2017

I have heard nothing but praise for this book … I mean just look at that cover. How could it not be adorable? I am, by far, more of a fantasy reader at my core, but this is one of my most anticipated contemporary books of 2017.
