This week’s prompt is…
Top 5 Ships I hate to love
Ok seriously, this week’s prompt was “hate to love ships” … that was the wording … no explanation at all. So, my brain automatically went into a tailspin of “what does this mean” and “but there are multiple interpretations” and so I decided to interpret it two ways with two separate Top 5 Wednesday posts this week. See my other post for this week HERE.
In my other, I listed my top 5 favorite romances that started out as hate and grew into love (which by the way is one of my favorite tropes of all time!)
For this post, I am going to list my favorite ships that either make me feel guilty for shipping them because they are oh-so-wrong or almost no one else ships them but me. My guilty pleasure ships if you will.
for Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare, Witchlands series by Susan Dennard, Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, and The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater.
Alina and The Darkling from the Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo
There are times when your heart just really wants to ship the villains SO HARD even when you know it is SO WRONG! If you have read the Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, I would be willing to bet you shipped this devious duo too! Alina and The Darkling are one of THE examples that come to mind when someone mentions those guilty pleasure ships ❤
This ship was a beautiful thing! So bad it was good! So hot it was wrong! AND I SHIP IT SO HARD!
I’m going to need Bardugo to go back and do a re-write … ok thanks.
Mark, Christina and Kieran from The Dark Artifices series by Cassandra Clare
There is just something about Cassandra Clare’s books that always have me shipping the threesomes SO FUCKING HARD!
Seriously … she plays with my emotions so relentlessly in Lord of Shadows that I cannot help but ship this trio with all my heart. I need this ship to sail more than I need life. Please Cassie … please finally give me the threesome I didn’t know I needed until now!
Safiya and Caden from the Witchlands series by Susan Dennard
This is a case where I loved the ship and everyone else in the world hated it. I will be honest, I never really cared much for Safi and Merick, I was not invested in it. So when a new ship emerged (with a fabulous hate to love trope no less) I had no resistance to it. AND IT WAS BEAUTIFUL! While everyone else was losing there mind over the ongoing slow burn of Iseult and Aeduan, I was side swept by this beauty of the Caden/Safi ship so hard you have no idea! Don’t get me wrong … I was here for Iseult and Aeduan too … so much so that I wrote smutty fanfiction to satisfy my hunger for those two to do it already …. but the show stealer for me was absolutely the tension riddled ship between Caden and Safi ❤
Mare and Maven from the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard
Another one of my favorite villains who I ship and ship hard!
Maven is one of my favorite villains in the first two books of this series, and while the third installment made some pretty lofty promises about this toxic ship of mine … it sadly did not deliver. Boo.
I am hoping that I get some Maven Mare action at some point, but I think it is obvious that this is not an endgame ship. But isn’t it just delectable to think about ❤
Ronan Lynch and Joseph Kavinsky from The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater
This ship is a bad idea … let’s face it! Can we say “TOXIC”. But like … in an Oh-so-good sort of way. These two are my guilty pleasure. I loved their abusive angsty and WAY TOO BRIEF friendship and shipped it really hard! Even harder as time goes on I think.
Perhaps my biggest reason for hating to love this ship is that it will never sail … but let’s face it … Pynch is #relationshipgoals so I guess it turned out ok 🙂
Maybe I can dream these two a life together and pluck them into reality to live happily and toxically ever after.
